Medical students
Resources
The following resources are available for medical students in the Department of Family Medicine.
Summer Scholars in Family Medicine
The VCU Department of Family Medicine offers current M1 and M2 VCU medical students the chance to develop, with faculty mentorship, summer projects which can then be submitted to the Department for possible funding. These summer projects usually last four weeks, but the duration of the program varies and can be adjusted to suit the needs of the project. The project must be completed before the beginning of the new academic year. A limited amount of funding is available and each submission must include a budget for how any awarded money would be spent. Typically, funding or projects ranges between $800 and $1,200.
An announcement about this program is made in the early spring.
Interested students should contact Steve Crossman, MD., at scrossman@mcvh-vcu.edu or (804) 828-9779.
The Kent Library
Dr. and Mrs. Paul Kent graciously fund the Kent Library, which is located in the Department of Family Medicine. Their generosity enables the department to provide books and other resources for both students and faculty. If students have requests for materials not available in the library, please contact Avis Coleman at amwimbis@vcu.edu or (804) 828-9626.
Student advising
The Department of Family Medicine faculty takes an active role in student advising. Our faculty focus is on fostering growth and career development regardless of ultimate specialty choice. Although walk-ins are welcome and we love to have students visit us on the 14th floor of West Hospital, students who wish to speak with a particular faculty member are encouraged to arrange an appointment.
